Fix Camera and Microphone Issues on iPhone and iPad (Advanced Troubleshooting)

If your camera or microphone is blocked on an iPhone or iPad, one of these causes is usually to blame. Work through them in order.

1. Enable blocked permissions

1. Go to Settings > Safari.
2. At the bottom, open Camera and Microphone.
3. Set both to Allow. Do the same for Location if your call needs it.
4. Reload the page using the circular arrow in the address bar.

2. Reset your iOS browser

If the issue continues, clear Safari's history, cookies and cache.

1. Go to Settings > Safari.
2. Scroll down to the Clear History, Clear Cookies and Clear Cache buttons.
3. Tap each one and confirm with Yes.
4. Reload the page using the circular arrow in the address bar.

3. Check for conflicting apps

Another app may be using the camera or microphone, such as another video app or a phone call. Close those apps or restart your device.

4. Other tips

• Make sure you are not using Private Browsing mode in Safari 11 or later.
• Make sure the iPad Zoom accessibility feature is turned off.
• If you still can't see yourself in the video, try these in order:
  • Restart Safari.
  • Check that your camera works in FaceTime.
  • Make sure nothing is covering the camera and the lens is clean.
• On iOS 13 and later, you can allow the camera and mic by default:
  • Go to Settings > Safari.
  • Set Camera and Microphone to Allow.
  • Turn off Request Desktop Site.
