Video can get choppy, audio can sound bad, or calls can drop when data packets get lost between devices. Start by testing your connection, then try the fixes below.
1. Run the diagnostic test
Use the Blitzz Network Test to check that your camera, speakers and connection are working. Ask other participants to run it too: https://networktest.blitzz.co
2. Improve your setup
If the test shows poor results, both participants can try these tips:
- Taking lots of photos? Read how photo uploads affect video quality.
- Use a newer, faster computer or phone. Video takes a lot of processing power. Older devices can struggle and cause choppy video.
- Restart your device. Other software may be using resources or interfering with your camera or mic.
- Close unused apps and tabs. Choppy video can come from an overloaded CPU. Check Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (Mac). If CPU use is 85% or higher, close apps.
- Move closer to your Wi-Fi router and switch to 5 GHz. This gives you more bandwidth over short distances.
- Use an Ethernet cable for the most stable connection. Each participant needs at least 750 kbps; we recommend 2 Mbps for a more stable session.
- Pause other high bandwidth activity on the same network, such as video streaming or other video calls.
- Keep your router in the open. Obstructions weaken the signal.
- Using a hotspot? Move closer to it and run a speed test.
